A special lecture was organised by Prof. D. K. Madaan at School of Social Sciences, Punjabi University, Patiala. The special guests of the event were Prof. Ian Rothman, South Africa, Prof. Amandeep Singh from Finland and Prof. Manjeet Singh former registrar of Punjabi University, Patiala. Professor Rothman shared his view on socio-economic conditions of South Africa. He said the problem of Unemployment, corruption and crime is prevailing in South Africa and the root cause of this is low education and the psychological mind set of people. According to studies made by him in some areas of South Africa Unemployment rate is approximately 70 to 80 per cent due to which crime rates are very high in South Africa. There is huge scope in South Africa to work in education field as some of South African Universities fall in top 700 universities of the world. Prof Amandeep enlightened the students with scope of education available to Indian students at Foreign Universities specifically in Europe along with his personal experiences. A question answer session was also organised for the students in which students participated actively. Professor Manjeet Singh the former registrar of Punjabi University also added his views at the end that India and Africa, both the countries are similar in many aspects like cultural diversities and both have high proportion of young generation to their total population. And they need to use their potential and available resources in right direction.

 

 

 

 

• The students of BA (Hons) Social Sciences Part I participated in the Workshop on ‘Students’ Liberty’ at Rajiv Gandhi National Law University on 23rd March 2015

 
• The Department celebrated the Sports Day on 20th March 2015 by holding Inter-Class Cricket Match in which BA (Hons) Social Sciences 2nd Year won the Final Match.

 

• Fresher’s Party was organized by senior students on 3 November 2014 to welcome new students of B.A. (Hons) Social Sciences Part 1. The party chose Mr. Simerjeet Singh as Mr. Fresher, and Mehakdeep Kaur as Ms Fresher.


• Faculty and students participated in the 6th Annual Conference on ‘Promoting Excellence in Women Development: The Way Forward for Progress’, organized by Women’s Studies Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala during 30-31 October 2014. The Inaugural Session of the conference was presided by Dr.Jaspal Singh, Vice Chancellor. Prof. Devinder Singh, Registrar chaired the Valedictory Session.


• Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur National Integration Chair in collaboration with School of Social Sciences and Department of Journalism organized National Seminar on the theme of “Communication Strategies for Integrated Nation” at Senate Hall, Punjabi University, Patiala on 20th October 2014. Dr. Gurmohan Singh Walia, Vice Chancellor of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib gave the Inaugural Address on this occasion in which he emphasized that the media can play an important role for national integration. Dr. B.K. Kuthiala, Vice Chancellor of MC National Journalism University, Bhopal delivered the Keynote Address. He stressed on the India’s unity in diversity for national integration. The Seminar was presided by Dr. Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, who stressed on the sincere role of media for the society. Dr J.A. Khan presented a vote of thanks to the audience. In the afternoon session, panel discussions were made, which were moderated by Dr. Kuthiala. Dr. H.S. Walia, Dr. D.K. Madaan, Dr. Daljit Singh and Dr. Ravneet Kaur deliberated as Panelists on the theme of seminar. Students and faculty of social sciences and journalism participated in the live discussion. The objective of this seminar was to generate the awareness of national integration among the students.
